Swimming With LawyersPosted: May 20, 2009
The International Trademark Association’s Annual Meeting wrapped up an hour ago. The conference began on Sunday and was very well-attended (approx. 7,000 attendees in 13+ hotels). The keynote speaker was Elle McPherson, who is much nicer to look at than some Attorney General or studio head. Her talk was very insightful coming from a fashion/apparel industry insider for more than 25 years. From lingerie to Facebook, she covered it all and kept the crowd awake.
The exhibitors were in full form, from domain name icon Ken Taylor of Marksmen, to publishing behemoths Thompson (Reuters, Compumark, West, etc.). The swag was also interesting this year. One company gave away USB pens, and one gave away $1 bills as a consolation prize for not winning their grand prize – a Macbook Pro.
Downtown Seattle provided courteous cab drivers and clean, easy-to-navigate, sidewalks. I wish I could tell you how good the salmon was, but I spent so much time talking & networking that I did not eat much at all (this INTA diet is an intriguing concept). You can be sure my vocal chords will need a rest and I will be sipping tea with lemon & honey for the next week.
Most of my friends are lawyers, so I do not see them as sharks, as much as dolphins with attitude. I had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
Now I am going to finish my coffee.
